Akhaura-Agartala Construction Projects To Be Completed By September 2021: NFR

At least six construction projects including three new lines and three double-line projects, are slated to be completed in 2021 under the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), an official release said. Among the three new railway line projects, two will be International lines connecting India with neighboring countries of Nepal and Bangladesh, informed the release from Dr Jayanta Kumar Sarma), PRO, NFR Construction Organization. Among the projects that are targeted for completion in 2021, Akhura Agartala project is one of them. 12.03-km long new broad gauge International railway line from Agartala to Akhaura in Bangladesh. The 1st phase of the project, i.e. construction of Nischintapur Yard is nearing completion and the second phase of the project, i.e. a 3.46-km railway line from Nischintapur to Agartala is targeted for completion by September next year. Though originally designed as a 15.6 km-long railway track — 10.6 km in Bangladesh and 5.46 km in India — it was later shortened to 10 km. Six kilometres of the new route falls in Bangladesh and 4 km in the Indian State of Agartala. The project is aimed to link the British-era Akhaura Junction with Agartala Railway Station to commence train connectivity between the two neighbouring countries.
