Tripura CM Biplab Kr. Deb condemns the incident of arrest of the Republic TV editor Arnab Goswami. “Blatant misuse of state power against Arnab Goswami is a direct attack on free speech and democracy. It gives us a reminiscence of the Emergency by Congress and its allies. This must be condemned in loudest voice” Twittes Biplab Deb. Tripura Pradesh BJP also organized rally protesting the arrest of Arnab Goswami. Meanwhile Union ministers Amit Shah and S. Jaishankar led the chorus of protest that erupted in the BJP following Republic TV Editor Arnab Goswami’s arrest on Wednesday. On the other hand The Shiv Sena, which is in office in Maharashtra with the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and the Congress, said being a journalist didn’t grant Goswami immunity from the charges against him. The Congress, meanwhile, accused the BJP of hypocrisy in its calls for freedom of the press, citing the arrest last month of a Kerala journalist who is believed to have been on his way to Hathras, Uttar Pradesh — led by the BJP — to cover the alleged gang rape and murder of a 20-year-old Dalit woman. Hitting out at the BJP over its criticism of Arnab Goswami’s arrest in Mumbai, the Congress today said its “selective outrage” on press freedom is “shameful” and the law will take its own course in the case against the Republic TV editor-in-chief. Tripura chief minister Biplab Deb also once again in the limelight for his very recent “won’t forgive” media threatening remark. Arnab Goswami was arrested by Maharashtra Police Wednesday morning in connection with a 2018 case in which he is accused of abetting the suicide of an architect and his mother by allegedly not paying him for an assignment.
