A man who joined the ongoing protests by terminated teachers at Agartala has died due to cold-related illness. The deceased man identified as Subhash Karmakar, is the husband of a terminated teacher who had been staging protest in Agartala along with thousands others for over a month now. Subhash Karmakar was the husband of Smriti Karmakar, an agitating terminated teacher. On December 30, Subhash Karmakar fell ill and was admitted to the Indira Gandhi Memorial (IGM) Hospital. However, doctors at the IGM Hospital referred him to the Tripura Medical College Hospital (TMCH) where he died on last evening. Over thousand teachers in Tripura have been staging sit-in demonstration in Agartala, under open sky, braving bitter winter cold since December 7. However, the Tripura Government is yet to pay any heed to the demands of the agitating teachers. Ajoy Debbrama, one of the teachers leader said, “We have been agitating for over a month now, but the State Government has shown no interest on our plight and continues to ignore our demands.” As many as 10,323 terminated teachers in Tripura came together under one banner – Joint Movement Committee and are staging sit-in demonstration demanding re-recruitment in different State Government Departments.
