Bihar CM Nitish Kumar along with his deputy Tejashwi reached Kolkata on Monday regarding opposition unity in 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
Both met Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee. Nitish said that the conversation was positive. Mamta said- she has no ego in going with the opposition alliance against BJP. ‘I want BJP to turn from hero to zero in the next elections’ She said.
After the meeting, both the leaders held a press conference. Nitish said that it is very important for all the opposition parties to come on one platform in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. For this, the opposition parties will have to sit together and chalk out a strategy. Had a good conversation with Mamta ji. We will hold talks in the future by bringing other parties together.
Nitish-Tejashwi will also meet former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and SP chief Akhilesh Yadav.
The meeting of the three leaders is also important for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections because these three states are very important in terms of government formation at the Centre.
80 Lok Sabha seats come from UP, 40 from Bihar and 42 from Bengal. That is, 162 seats in the Lok Sabha with 545 members are in these three states alone.
In a conversation with the media, Mamta said – we will move forward together. We have to send the message that we are all in this together. We have no individual ego, we want to work together as a collective. We have talked about uniting the opposition parties.
“I have requested Nitish ji that since Jaiprakash ji’s movement started from Bihar, we should also hold an all party meeting in Bihar. We also have to give a message to the people of Bihar that we are all together. I have already said that I have no objection to this, I want BJP to become zero from hero” Said Bengal CM.
Bihar CM Nitish Kumar said that I do not want anything for myself. We don’t have any personal desire, we are thinking about the interest of the whole country. Whatever is happening now, people are trying to change the history of the whole country. All we want is for the country to be safe.
“The new generations should know about such a big fight that took place for the freedom of the country. People want to change everything till date. If everyone gets together then the country will be safe. We are working for this only. Nitish and Tejashwi will also meet former UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav in Lucknow today” he said.
Earlier on April 12, Nitish Kumar and Tejashwi Yadav met Rahul Gandhi, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge in Delhi.
After the meeting, Nitish Kumar had said that our opposition unity has been discussed. There is an attempt to bring maximum parties together. We have had positive talks.
The same evening both of them also met Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal. Kejriwal had said after the meeting that at present the country is going through difficult times. It is necessary that all the opposition parties of the country come together and change the government. We are with the initiative taken by Nitish Kumar.
Kejriwal further said that at present the country has the most corrupt government after independence. We all have to stand together against the Centre. At the same time, after the meeting, Nitish Kumar said that our entire conversation is over. It has been decided that we will work together for opposition unity. Will unite all parties.
Nitish had said in February 2023 that if all the opposition parties including the Congress fight the 2024 Lok Sabha elections unitedly, the BJP will not be able to win even 100 seats.
