In West Bengal, there was a stampede in the blanket distribution program of BJP leader Shubhendu Adhikari.
According to information received from PTI, three people died in this accident, including a child. This program was happening in Asansol.
Police sources have indicated that proper permission was not taken for the mass gathering.
Police said the Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly, Shubhendu Adhikari of the BJP, had attended the program and a stampede broke out after he left.
Reports said there was chaos as people jostled to get close to the stage where the organisers, a religious organization, were distributing blankets.
Five people were injured in this and they were admitted to the hospital.
“Three people died and five others were injured in the stampede. The injured have been hospitalised,” news agency Press Trust of India quoted an unnamed police officer as saying.
