42nd Kokborok Day Observed In Tripura

A colourful rally, symposium and cultural shows marked the 42nd anniversary of Kokborok, the language of many tribal people in Tripura, on Tuesday. The first left front government of the state under stewardship of Chief Minister Nripen Chakraborty recognised the language in 1979, conceding a longstanding demand of the State’s 33 percent ethnic population. This is second official language of Tripura after Bangla, but is granted first status by the tribal areas autonomous district council, which has limited governing jurisdiction over three fourth of the State’s geographical area. Official program was organized at Umakanta Academy Ground. Minister N.C Debbarma, Mebar Kr Jamatia, Ratan Lal Nath addressed the rally. On the other hand GMP and TYF-TSU also organized separate program regarding Kokborok Day.
