The 5-day Durga puja festivities begin on thursday in tripura. On Thursday it was MAHA SASHTHI. Maa Durga has arrived from Kailash Parvat with her four children Lakshmi, Saraswati, Kartik and Ganesha. On Shasthi, Goddess Durga is welcomed amid the sound of dhak or traditional drums decorated with feathers with and shankha dhwani or the sound of the conch. On Thursday morning, the first ritual of Bodhon or the invocation ceremony of Maa Durga has happened. Even though the festivities are low-key this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic, people on social media are greeting each other. Durga Puja wishes are being exchanged on WhatsApp, SMS or and Facebook. As there was no restrictions crowd hits the puja pandals in sasthi night. Beside this, Tripura also registered 5 fresh covid19 deaths on Thursday. With these 5 deaths toll stands on 337 on Thursday evening. Tripura also registers 29,971 covid19 positive case load as of Thursday evening, health department data shows.
