9 Rohingyas from Bangladesh Arrested In Tripura: NFR
At least nine suspected Rohingyas from Bangladesh were arrested from Tripura for illegally entering India during a search operation by the Railway Protection Force (RPF).
In a statement, Chief Public Relations Officer of North East Frontier Railway (NFR) Sabyasachi Dey said nine people, including five women, were caught during a special check at Agartala railway station.
According to the statement, on the day of incident, Agartala’s RPF team jointly with GRP Agartala carried out special checking against illegal immigrants in all trains arriving and departing at Agartala railway station.
According to the statement, during this special investigation, the joint team apprehended 9 Bangladeshis. Those caught on December 15 could not produce any valid documents during interrogation and later confessed that they are of Bangladesh and Myanmar origin.
Later, all the nine Bangladeshi Rohingyas were arrested and brought to the RPF post, the official said in the statement.
They were handed over to the officer-in-charge of the Government Railway Police in Agartala for further legal action, he added.
Let us tell you that Rohingya is a community of Muslims. A large population of Rohingya Muslims live in Myanmar’s Rakhine state.
But for decades, they have been facing discrimination and harassment in Myanmar. Rohingya Muslims claim that they are descendants of the Muslims of Myanmar. They are claimed to have migrated to Myanmar from Bangladesh during the British rule.
Here, Bangladesh bordering Myanmar does not consider the Rohingya community as its own, due to which they could not get citizenship of any country.
