90 Lakh Kg Tea Leaves Produced In 2022-23 FY In Tripura: TTDC

Chairman of Tripura Tea Development Corporation Santosh Saha presents the overall tea production present status in a press conference organized at Agartala Tea Corporation on Friday. 

Speaking in the press conference Saha said:

” In the financial year 2022-23, 90 lakh kg of tea leaves have been produced in the state of Tripura. There are total 22 tea leaf factories in the state. 7 lakh kg of tea leaves have been produced in two factories belonging to Agartala Corporation. As a result, there is an increase in the production of tea leaves in the state, so the import has been reduced”.

“As a result, the state is becoming financially strong.  Tripura Tea Development Corporation is giving special importance to tea production with the support of this government. The State Government has entrusted the corporation with the management of two tea estates namely Lakshiganga and Teppanyalunga located at Bamutia. At present the tea leaves of the state are now being sent to out of state markets. Also, the current government has taken a big decision for the tea workers. Two Gandas land have been distributed as land rights to the tea workers who have been in the state for a long time.

The chairman of the corporation said that 2000j workers have benefited so far. He also said that Tripura Tea Development Corporation  Submitted the project to NEAC for factory modernization.

Accordingly, some funds have already been received for the modernization of Brahmakunda tea factory in Simna in two phases. Rs 2 crore 3 lakh rupees in the first phase and Rs 98 lakh in the second phase. The Department of Rural Development has been entrusted with the task of modernizing the Brahmakund Tea Factory. The Department of Rural Development has already invited tenders. Besides, a mini tea factory is being set up in Machmara. The foundation stone has already been laid there. Tripura Industrial Development Corporation has been entrusted with the task. 

The Tripura Industrial Development Corporation will invite tenders for this work by the month of August. Santosh Saha, chairman of Tripura Tea Development Corporation, announced this news in a press conference at the office of Tripura Tea Development Corporation on Friday. In the press conference, he also said that with the help of the Food Department, tea leaves are being sold through government fair price shops since 2019.

Initially, packets of tea leaves weighing 100 grams are supplied to the ration shops in Agartala city. Currently Tripureshwari brand tea leaves are being supplied to ration shops across the state. Currently there is a demand of 25 thousand kg of tea leaves per month.

He also said that three lakh kg of tea leaves are reaching people through government fair price shops every year.
