19 RS MPs Sworn In; Nitish Kumar Oath on April 10

Nineteen new and re-elected Rajya Sabha MPs, including Ramdas Athawale and Sharad Pawar, took oath on Monday, with Pawar attending the ceremony in a wheelchair.

Five members from Maharashtra, three from Odisha, six from Tamil Nadu, and five from West Bengal were sworn in in the presence of Rajya Sabha Chairman C. P. Radhakrishnan.

Elections for 37 Rajya Sabha seats across 10 states were held on March 16, while 18 MPs are yet to take oath. Nitish Kumar is scheduled to be sworn in on April 10.

The ceremony comes ahead of a special Parliament session starting April 16, where a key amendment to the Women’s Reservation law will be discussed.

The proposed plan could expand the Lok Sabha from 543 to 816 seats, with around one-third reserved for women under the ‘Nari Shakti Vandan Act’ introduced in 2023.
