A court in Nagaon on Friday sentenced 20 people to life imprisonment for the 2018 mob lynching of two men in Karbi Anglong.

District and Sessions Judge D J Mahanta also imposed a fine of ₹20,000 on each of the convicts. The victims were killed on suspicion of being child lifters, triggering widespread outrage at the time.

Earlier this week, the court had convicted 20 out of 45 accused under various sections of the Indian Penal Code.

In total, 48 people were arrested in connection with the case, while three minors involved are currently lodged in a juvenile home in Jorhat.
