AAI Team Inspects Abandoned Kailashahar Airport

A delegation from the Airports Authority of India (AAI) conducted an inspection of the abandoned Kailashahar Airport in Tripura on Friday afternoon, raising hopes for its possible revival.

The team included the Chief Security Officer of Agartala Airport, S.K. Roy, and Deputy General Manager (Electrical) Ram Kesh Meena, along with other officials. During the visit, the delegation assessed the condition of various airport facilities and infrastructure.

Officials observed that several buildings at the airport are in a dilapidated state. Issues such as leaking roofs, broken windows, and vegetation growing on the structures indicate rapid deterioration. The team also inspected the power supply room and the Air Traffic Control (ATC) building.

According to the delegation, steps will be taken to address the problems related to drinking water and electricity at the site. Additionally, the officials examined instances of encroachment on airport land and are considering the installation of proper fencing to prevent further illegal occupation.

Notably, recent allegations of land encroachment within a section of the airport premises were confirmed during the inspection. Authorities indicated that further measures regarding the potential reopening of the airport may be undertaken soon.

The visit has sparked optimism among local residents, who have long awaited the revival of the Kailashahar Airport to enhance regional connectivity and economic development.
