Seven of the Aam Aadmi Party's 10 Rajya Sabha MPs have left the party. This was announced by Punjab Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha at a press conference at 4 pm on Friday. He then went to the BJP office, where National President Nitin Naveen inducted Raghav, Sandeep Pathak, and Ashok Mittal into the party.
He said that apart from Rajya Sabha MPs Sandeep Pathak and Ashok Kumar Mittal, Harbhajan Singh, Vikramjeet Singh Sahni, Swati Maliwal, Rajendra Gupta are also with us.
He was accompanied at the press conference by Sandeep Pathak and Ashok Mittal, chairman of Lovely Professional University (LPU), whose house in Jalandhar was raided by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) ten days ago (April 15).
The remaining four MPs have not yet come forward. Swati Maliwal posted, "I am in Itanagar. I will speak to you in the evening after returning to Delhi. Punjab is going to have assembly elections in 2027."
Raghav explained that two-thirds of the party's MPs made this decision. Therefore, there is no point in applying the anti-defection law.
Raghav Chadha said, "For the past few years, I've felt like I'm the right man in the wrong party. We've decided to merge with the BJP using the provisions of the Constitution."
In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) won 3 seats in Punjab.
