Abhishek Debroy Visits GB Hospital, Meets Injured BJP Workers

BJP Tripura state president and MLA Abhishek Debroy visited GB Pant Hospital in Agartala to meet party workers injured in an incident during the Tripura Village Committee Elections.

Debroy went to the hospital to take stock of the condition of the injured workers and spoke with their family members. His visit came amid heightened attention to incidents reported from different areas during the September 28 Village Committee polling.

The elections were held across 587 Village Committees under the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), covering 4,597 seats in 2,634 constituencies. The polling was conducted after a long gap, making the election an important grassroots political exercise in the state's tribal areas.

Abhishek Debroy Calls Incident 'Very Sad'

Speaking to reporters at the hospital, Debroy expressed concern over the incident and said that the police had been asked to investigate what happened.

He said the BJP had issued instructions to its workers across Tripura to maintain peace during the election process. According to Debroy, polling remained peaceful in most parts of the state.

The BJP state president said the circumstances that led to the incident were not immediately clear and that the sequence of events needed to be established through an investigation.

BJP Leader Says Police Probe Will Establish Facts

Debroy said investigators would have to determine who was responsible and what exactly triggered the incident.

He also alleged that the episode could be linked to a broader conspiracy. However, he stressed that the facts would become clear only after the police completed their inquiry.

His remarks came at a time when political parties were giving different accounts of the conduct of the Village Committee elections. While the State Election Commission and ruling BJP described polling as largely peaceful, opposition leaders separately alleged irregularities and difficulties at some polling locations.

Debroy Expresses Personal Concern Over Injured Worker

Speaking about one of the injured workers, Debroy said the person belonged to his Assembly constituency.

The BJP state president described the worker as a good young man and expressed deep emotional distress over his condition. He said the incident had affected him personally and that he had spent the previous night in considerable anguish.

Debroy's comments reflected the personal dimension of the incident as he met the injured worker and members of the family at GB Hospital.

MLA Assures Family of Necessary Support

Debroy also conveyed his sympathy to the family and said he would remain with them during the difficult period.

Tripura Village Committee Polls See High Turnout

The September 28 Village Committee election witnessed substantial voter participation across Tripura's TTAADC areas. Reports indicated that polling was largely peaceful overall, although allegations of irregularities and isolated incidents emerged from some locations. The State Election Commission rejected the description of the polling as being marked by major disruption.

The election covers 587 Village Committees and 4,597 positions, with counting scheduled for October 5, 2026.

The incident involving the injured workers is now expected to be examined by the police, with the investigation likely to establish the circumstances surrounding the episode and determine whether any criminal action is warranted.
