Agartala Civil Hospital to Open Shortly: Mayor Saha

Agartala Mayor Deepak Majumdar has announced that the newly constructed Civil Hospital near Jackson Gate in Agartala will be opened for the public very soon, following an on-site inspection.

Speaking to reporters after reviewing the facility, the mayor said that construction work has nearly reached its final stage and the Agartala Municipal Corporation is aiming to make the modern healthcare centre operational at the earliest. “The Agartala Municipal Corporation wants to open this hospital for the public very soon,” he said.

The upcoming Civil Hospital has been developed as a 50-bed modern healthcare facility and is expected to significantly reduce the patient load at GB Hospital and IGM Hospital, both of which are currently facing excessive pressure.

According to officials, the hospital will feature an outdoor department (OPD) with multiple specialist services, a minor operation theatre for conducting minor surgeries, and extended service hours from 8 am to 8 pm. It will also be equipped with modern infrastructure such as elevators and a range of patient-friendly facilities.

The project has been modeled on successful municipal corporation-run hospitals in cities like Mumbai. The Agartala Municipal Corporation will directly oversee the management and functioning of the hospital.

Mayor Majumdar said the initiative is part of a broader effort by the state government to strengthen urban healthcare infrastructure and improve service delivery in the capital.

During the inspection, the mayor was accompanied by local corporator Ratna Dutta, AMC Additional Commissioner Mihir Ghosh, and senior hospital officials. The team briefed him in detail about the readiness of the facility and preparations for its upcoming inauguration.
