Agartala Gets New AMC Ward Office; CM Manik Saha Highlights Smart City, Housing and Civic Development

Reinforcing the Tripura government's commitment to strengthening urban infrastructure and improving civic amenities, Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha on Tuesday inaugurated the newly constructed Ward No. 40 office of the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) at Baradowali.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, the Chief Minister said the government's priority is to ensure that every citizen receives essential civic services through modern infrastructure and transparent governance. He added that the Agartala Municipal Corporation has been continuously upgrading urban facilities to improve the quality of life for city residents.

Agartala Witnessing Planned Urban Transformation Since 2019

Dr. Saha stated that Agartala has undergone significant development over the past several years due to planned urban expansion and systematic implementation of infrastructure projects.

He recalled that in earlier years, indiscriminate filling of ponds and water bodies, along with encroachments on roads, had severely affected the city's drainage system and urban planning. According to him, the present state government has focused on restoring ecological balance while improving civic infrastructure through scientific planning.

₹137 Crore Spent on Restoration of Water Bodies

Highlighting major achievements, the Chief Minister informed that four major water bodies within the Agartala Municipal Corporation limits have been renovated and beautified with an investment of nearly ₹137 crore.

He also noted that several localities which lacked safe drinking water for years have now been connected with household water supply under government initiatives.

PMAY Housing Projects Receive Major Boost

Dr. Saha said the state government has taken several housing initiatives to improve living standards in urban areas.

He informed that:

  • 48 residential flats have already been allotted under township projects.
  • Construction under the Lighthouse Project is progressing steadily.
  • A target has been set to construct 79,878 houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (pmay-urban)
  •  with an estimated investment of ₹1,292 crore.
  • More than 76,000 houses have already been completed.
  • Around 4,300 additional homes will be constructed under PMAY-Urban 2.0.

Smart City Mission Projects Worth ₹581 Crore Underway

The Chief Minister said Agartala is steadily moving towards becoming a modern smart city through projects implemented under the Smart City Mission (smartcities).

Projects worth nearly ₹581 crore are currently being executed, covering improved roads, drainage systems, public infrastructure and urban amenities.

He added that modern drainage facilities have been introduced to reduce waterlogging during heavy rainfall and improve overall urban resilience.

Urban Livelihood Mission Strengthening Employment

Besides infrastructure, the government is also focusing on employment generation in urban areas.

According to Dr. Saha:

  • 6,725 Self-Help Groups (SHGs) have been formed under the Tripura Urban Livelihood Mission.
  • Financial allocation for the Tripura Urban Employment Programme (TUEP) has been increased.
  • Welfare measures are being extended to sanitation workers and other municipal workforce engaged in maintaining cleanliness across urban local bodies

Government Committed to Last-Mile Delivery of Services

The Chief Minister reiterated that the government's objective is to ensure that no eligible citizen is deprived of public welfare schemes or government services.

He urged citizens to actively participate in Tripura's development journey and support ongoing efforts to build cleaner, smarter and more inclusive urban centres.
