AIUDF Submits Memorandum to Assam CM, Seeks Review of UCC, Eviction Drives and Pushback Policy

The All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) has submitted a detailed memorandum to  Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, urging the state government to reconsider several key policy issues, including the proposed Uniform Civil Code (UCC), eviction drives, the deportation of illegal immigrants, rehabilitation of displaced families and the prevailing law and order situation.

The memorandum reflects the party's position on several matters that have generated political debate across Assam in recent months.

Speaking after the submission, AIUDF spokesperson Rafikul Islam said the party supports legal action against individuals proven to be illegal immigrants. However, he stressed that any deportation or pushback exercise should only be carried out after proper coordination between the governments of India and Bangladesh.

According to Islam, AIUDF president Badruddin Ajmal has consistently maintained that diplomatic engagement with Bangladesh is essential before initiating such measures to ensure the process remains lawful and orderly.

AIUDF Opposes Proposed Uniform Civil Code

The AIUDF also reiterated its opposition to the proposed Uniform Civil Code, claiming that the draft does not represent a truly uniform legal framework.

Rafikul Islam alleged that the proposal attempts to replace the existing personal laws of different religious communities with provisions largely based on Hindu personal law. The party has therefore demanded that the proposed legislation be withdrawn.

Demand for Rehabilitation Before Eviction

Another major issue highlighted in the memorandum concerns eviction drives being conducted in different parts of Assam.

The AIUDF argued that no family should be displaced without first being provided with adequate rehabilitation. The party urged the government to ensure proper resettlement before carrying out eviction operations.

Crime Has No Religion, Says AIUDF

Rejecting allegations that Muslim-majority areas experience higher crime rates, Rafikul Islam described such claims as politically motivated and misleading.

He asserted that criminal activities cannot be linked to any religion or community and called for avoiding narratives that stigmatize particular sections of society.

AIUDF's Stand on Ayodhya

Commenting on the Ayodhya issue, the AIUDF spokesperson said the demolition of the Babri Masjid continues to remain an emotional issue for many Muslims.

At the same time, he stated that since the Ram Temple has now been constructed, it deserves respect along with the donations and public contributions associated with it.

The AIUDF requested the Assam government to examine the issues raised in the memorandum and take appropriate decisions on the party's demands concerning the UCC, eviction drives, illegal immigrant deportation, rehabilitation of displaced families and law and order.
