The Assam government in coordination with the temple administration of Kamakhya Temple has accelerated preparations for the upcoming Ambubachi Mela 2026, one of the largest spiritual congregations in Eastern India.

Officials estimate that more than 8 lakh devotees, including saints, sadhus, and tantric practitioners, are likely to arrive at Nilachal Hill in Guwahati for the annual religious event.

Record Devotee Footfall Expected This Year

The Mela witnessed nearly 10 lakh pilgrims last year, making it one of the biggest religious gatherings in the region. Authorities believe this year’s participation will remain extremely high despite strict crowd management measures.

The Assam Tourism Department has described Ambubachi Mela as a nationally significant spiritual event attracting visitors from across India and abroad.

Government Arrangements for Pilgrims

The state administration has put in place extensive arrangements including:

Drinking water distribution points
Temporary food and community kitchen facilities
Medical camps and emergency healthcare units
Transport and crowd control systems
Accommodation support in designated zones

A total of ₹4.55 crore has been allocated across 24 government departments to ensure smooth execution of the event.

Officials have also urged pilgrims to plan their visit between 5 AM and 6 PM for better crowd management.
