Arunachal athlete Rupa Bayor makes global mark

Rupa Bayor of Arunachal Pradesh has etched her name in history by becoming the first Indian to attain a World Taekwondo (WT) World Ranking of No. 5. This landmark accomplishment follows her recent recognition as the “Best Taekwondo Poomsae Player of the Year 2026” at the India Taekwondo Gala Awards.

She also presently holds the distinction of being Asia’s top-ranked athlete in the Poomsae category.

Extending his congratulations, Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu described her feat as a moment of immense pride for both the state and the nation.

He commended her unwavering dedication, discipline, and tenacity, noting that her success establishes a new benchmark for taekwondo in India. He further said that Bayor’s achievement transcends personal glory,serving as a powerful source of inspiration for aspiring athletes across Arunachal Pradesh and the country at large.
