India secured its seventh gold medal at the Asian Games 2026 after the women’s compound archery team defeated China 238-234 in a thrilling final on Wednesday. The Indian trio of Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Chikitha Taniparthi and Prithika Pradeep produced a highly consistent performance to retain the Asian Games women’s compound team title.

The victory also gave India another major milestone in its Asian Games 2026 campaign, with the Indian team matching the world-record score of 238 points previously achieved by South Korea.

India Beats China to Retain Women’s Compound Archery Gold

India entered the gold-medal contest against China with the confidence of having reached the final after a narrow semifinal victory over South Korea.

The Indian archers maintained their advantage throughout the final. China attempted to close the gap during the middle stages, but India responded with a series of accurate shots and eventually finished the contest with a 238-234 victory.

The gold medal marks India’s successful defence of the women’s compound team title after the country won the event at the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou.

The Indian team consisted of Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Chikitha Taniparthi and Prithika Pradeep, with all three contributing to the decisive victory.

Jyothi Surekha Vennam Wins Fourth Asian Games Gold

The triumph was particularly significant for Jyothi Surekha Vennam, who added another Asian Games gold medal to her decorated record.

Jyothi has now won gold medals at four consecutive Asian Games, having previously tasted success in 2014, 2018 and 2023.

For Chikitha Taniparthi and Prithika Pradeep, the victory brought an Asian Games gold medal on their Games debut.

Chikitha had already made an impression during the qualification stage, where she recorded a career-best score of 705 and finished as the top-ranked compound women's archer in qualification.

One of the biggest highlights of India’s victory was the team’s score.

The achievement adds another landmark to India’s growing record in compound archery and underlines the consistency of the Indian women’s team on the Asian Games stage.
