Assam Destroys Drugs Worth ₹472.51 Crore; Himanta Leads Mega Anti-Narcotics Campaign

In one of the largest anti-drug operations undertaken by the Assam Government, narcotics worth an estimated ₹472.51 crore are being destroyed through a scientifically monitored disposal programme in Nalbari district. The initiative reflects the state's intensified campaign to eliminate illegal drugs and dismantle trafficking networks operating across the Northeast.
The large-scale destruction programme began on Sunday at the 4th Assam Police Battalion headquarters in Daulasal, Nalbari, under the supervision of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. Senior officials, including the Director General of Police (DGP) and top police officers, attended the event.

Massive Stockpile of Heroin, Yaba and Cocaine to Be Destroyed
According to officials, the seized narcotics include heroin, morphine, methamphetamine-based Yaba tablets, cocaine, along with several other banned psychotropic substances recovered during anti-drug operations conducted across Assam.
Authorities confirmed that the destruction process will continue for 10 days, ensuring every seized substance is disposed of under strict safety and environmental protocols.
Union Government Supports Assam's Anti-Drug Mission
The disposal exercise is being carried out using a high-capacity incinerator supplied by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs. The specialised equipment enables the secure and environmentally compliant destruction of confiscated narcotics, reinforcing cooperation between the Centre and the Assam Government in the fight against organised drug trafficking.
