Prime Minister (pmindia) Narendra Modi on Tuesday held a high-level discussion with Members of Parliament from Assam to assess the worsening flood situation across the state. The meeting focused on relief measures, rehabilitation efforts and the coordination between the Centre and the Assam Government to support people affected by the devastating floods.
Following the meeting, the Prime Minister shared on social media that the Central Government is working closely with the Assam Government to ensure timely assistance reaches every affected family. He also prayed for the safety, health and well-being of the people battling the flood crisis.

Flood Situation Remains Critical in Sivasagar District
The flood emergency has intensified in Sivasagar district, particularly in Naujan village, where overflowing rivers have submerged houses, roads and agricultural land. Hundreds of families are facing severe hardship due to waterlogged homes, disrupted transport and shortages of food, safe drinking water and temporary shelter.
Residents were seen wading through waist-deep floodwaters to collect essential supplies while rescue personnel and relief agencies continued emergency operations. The rising water level has severely affected normal life and isolated several villages.
Over 4.45 Lakh People Affected Across Six Districts
According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), the flood situation remains alarming, with more than 4.45 lakh people affected across six districts, including Sivasagar and Charaideo.

Official data shows that 631 villages remain inundated, while extensive damage has been reported to public infrastructure, residential buildings and transportation networks.
Relief Camps Shelter Nearly 28,700 Displaced Residents
To support flood-hit families, authorities have established 184 relief camps and distribution centres, where approximately 28,700 displaced people are receiving food, drinking water, medical assistance and temporary accommodation.
State and Central agencies continue to work together to ensure uninterrupted rescue and relief operations in the affected districts.
Infrastructure, Agriculture and Livestock Suffer Heavy Losses
Although officials have confirmed that no human casualties have been reported so far, the floods have caused widespread destruction across Assam. Houses, roads, schools, agricultural fields and livestock have suffered extensive damage, creating significant challenges for local communities.
Authorities are closely monitoring river levels and weather conditions as restoration and rehabilitation efforts continue in flood-affected areas.
Government Continues Rescue and Rehabilitation Efforts
The Assam Government, with support from the Centre, has intensified relief operations to minimise the impact of the floods. Rescue teams, emergency responders and local administration remain on high alert as thousands of people continue to depend on relief camps and humanitarian assistance.
Officials have assured that relief materials, medical services and essential supplies will continue to be delivered to all affected regions until the situation improves.
