The Vishva Hindu Parishad has sought an expanded investigation into the alleged theft of donations collected for the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Temple in Ayodhya, urging the Special Investigation Team (SIT) to question several Opposition leaders who have publicly raised allegations of financial irregularities.
In a formal representation submitted to the SIT on July 4, 2026, the VHP argued that political leaders who have made public statements regarding the alleged misuse of Ram Temple donations should be asked to provide evidence and explain the basis of their claims.
The organization believes that recording their statements would help investigators establish the facts and ensure a transparent, impartial and legally sound inquiry.
Opposition Leaders Named in VHP Representation
The VHP has specifically named senior Opposition leaders:
- Priyanka Gandhi Vadra
- Arvind Kejriwal
- Sanjay Singh
- Ram Gopal Yadav
According to the organization, their public remarks indicate that they may possess information relevant to the ongoing investigation into the alleged financial irregularities involving temple donations.
VHP Calls for Comprehensive and Transparent Investigation
The VHP has requested the SIT to record statements from the leaders under the relevant legal provisions to determine:
- The factual basis of their allegations.
- The source of the information relied upon.
- Whether documentary evidence exists to support the claims.
- Any additional material that may assist investigators.
The organization stated that collecting these statements would strengthen the investigation while ensuring fairness and transparency in the probe.

Priyanka Gandhi Calls Allegations 'Tragic' and 'Shameful'
Speaking to journalists during her visit to Wayanad in Kerala, Congress General Secretary and Lok Sabha MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra described the allegations surrounding the alleged theft of Ram Temple donations as "tragic" and "shameful."
She said millions of devotees across India had donated to the Ram Temple out of faith and devotion, making the allegations extremely serious.
According to Priyanka Gandhi, if the accusations are true, the government must conduct a thorough investigation to establish what happened, identify those responsible, and ensure accountability under the law.
SIT Investigation Continues
The SIT continues its investigation into the alleged misappropriation of donations linked to the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Temple. The latest demand by the VHP has added a fresh political dimension to the case, with attention now focused on whether investigators will summon Opposition leaders named in the representation.
The outcome of the investigation is expected to remain under close public and political scrutiny as authorities continue gathering evidence in the high-profile case.
Why This Story Matters
The Ram Temple is one of India's most significant religious institutions, with donations received from devotees across the country and abroad. Allegations involving temple funds carry both legal and political implications, making transparency and accountability central to the ongoing investigation.
As the SIT proceeds with its inquiry, the case is likely to remain a major national issue, attracting attention from political parties, devotees and legal experts alike.
