Addressing a public rally in Debra, West Bengal, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday launched a sharp attack on Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, accusing her of prioritizing dynastic politics over the welfare of the people. Shah alleged that Banerjee is focused on paving the way for her nephew, Abhishek Banerjee, to become the next Chief Minister of the state.
In a swift response, Mamata Banerjee, while addressing an election rally in Tentulia in North 24 Parganas, launched a scathing counterattack against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). She remarked, “A snake can be trusted, but not the BJP,” intensifying the war of words between the two political rivals.
BJP Releases ‘Letter of Assurance’
Amid the escalating political rhetoric, the Bharatiya Janata Party unveiled its election manifesto for West Bengal, termed a “Letter of Assurance.” The manifesto outlines several welfare and governance initiatives aimed at appealing to voters across the state.
Key Promises in the Manifesto
- ₹3,000 Monthly Grant for Women: Financial assistance aimed at empowering women and enhancing household security.
- ₹3,000 Monthly Support for Unemployed Youth: Aimed at providing relief to job seekers while boosting economic stability.
- Implementation of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC): The party pledged to introduce the UCC within the first six months of coming to power.
- Seventh Pay Commission Benefits: Government employees would receive the benefits of the seventh pay scale within 45 days of the BJP forming the government.
Political Significance
The exchange of sharp remarks between Amit Shah and Mamata Banerjee underscores the intensifying political contest in West Bengal. With the BJP’s welfare-oriented promises and the Trinamool Congress (TMC) countering with strong rhetoric, the stage is set for a highly competitive electoral battle in the state.
