BJP-Tipra Secret Alliance Misleading Voters: LoP Tripura

Leader of the Opposition Jitendra Chowdhury on Wednesday accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Tipra Motha of maintaining a concealed political alliance while publicly portraying themselves as rivals. He asserted that both parties should stop misleading voters and officially acknowledge their partnership in the interest of transparency.

Addressing the media, the senior CPI(M) leader claimed that the political understanding between BJP and Tipra Motha has existed since 2023 and does not require a fresh agreement ahead of the upcoming Village Committee elections.

"Alliance Exists, Only Its Form Changes"

According to Chowdhury, the relationship between the two parties is sometimes visible and sometimes deliberately hidden depending on political convenience. He alleged that public confrontations and sharp exchanges between BJP and Tipra Motha are designed to divert public attention from governance failures.

He further claimed that incidents of political unrest, vandalism and confrontational politics are being used to create the impression of rivalry, while both parties continue working together behind the scenes.

The Opposition leader maintained that such political tactics are aimed at confusing voters and weakening the CPI(M)'s electoral prospects. He urged both BJP and Tipra Motha to openly declare their alliance instead of keeping it unofficial.

Opposition Targets Government Over Asmita Dey

Chowdhury also criticised the ruling BJP over remarks made regarding Commonwealth Games gold medallist Asmita Dey.

Referring to comments made by state minister Tinku Roy, he questioned why the government was attempting to take credit for the athlete's international achievement. According to him, Asmita represented India on merit, and it is entirely expected that the Government of India would facilitate her participation in international competitions.

He argued that such support should not be projected as an extraordinary accomplishment of the government.

Questions Employment Support for Athlete

The CPI(M) leader also questioned why the Tripura government could not provide Asmita Dey with adequate employment to help support her family. He suggested that the athlete had to seek opportunities outside the state due to the absence of sufficient institutional support.

Chowdhury further alleged that influential individuals associated with the ruling establishment dominate the state's sports administration. He claimed recurring allegations of irregularities and corruption have prevented deserving sportspersons from receiving equal opportunities and recognition.

Political Debate Intensifies Ahead of Local Elections

The latest remarks come as political activity gathers pace ahead of the Village Committee elections in Tripura. Allegations over political alliances and governance, along with debates surrounding support for sportspersons, are expected to remain key issues in the state's political discourse.
