BJP Yet to Finalise Tripura Village Poll Alliance

The Tripura BJP has stepped up preparations for the 2026 Village Committee elections, with senior state and national leaders holding a high-level organisational meeting in Agartala on Wednesday.
The meeting at the Tripura BJP state headquarters brought together BJP National General Secretary (Organisation) B.L. Santosh, Chief Minister of Tripura Dr. Manik Saha, MP Biplab Kumar Deb, BJP National Spokesperson Sambit Patra, state in-charge Dr. Rajdeep Roy and state BJP president Abhishek Debroy.
Senior ministers, MLAs, state office-bearers, leaders of various party morchas, district presidents and organisational in-charges, along with mandal presidents, also participated in the discussions.
BJP Reviews Grassroots Organisation Ahead of VC Polls
The BJP leadership reviewed its organisational preparedness and discussed plans for strengthening the party network at the grassroots level. Future programmes, election-related activities and coordination among different organisational units also figured prominently during the meeting.
The exercise assumes significance as political parties in Tripura intensify their preparations for the upcoming TTAADC Village Committee elections. Voting for the Village Committee polls is scheduled for September 28, with counting set for October 5.

BJP Keeps Alliance Option Open
The possibility of an electoral understanding with Tipra Motha remains one of the key political issues surrounding the upcoming polls.
BJP state president Abhishek Debroy said the party is prepared to contest the election independently if an alliance does not materialise. He indicated that discussions concerning a possible electoral arrangement could reach a conclusion within the next one or two days.
Recent reports indicate that negotiations between the BJP and Tipra Motha are continuing, with seat-sharing among the important issues under discussion. A possible high-level meeting between the two sides in New Delhi before September 8 has also been reported.
BL Santosh Visit Gains Political Significance
The presence of senior BJP central leaders, including B.L. Santosh and Sambit Patra, has added importance to the party's organisational exercise in Tripura.
The BJP has projected the visit primarily as an organisational review, while the timing has drawn attention because of the approaching Village Committee elections and ongoing discussions over a possible BJP-Tipra Motha understanding.
With the election schedule moving forward and the nomination deadline approaching, the BJP is simultaneously preparing for an independent contest while keeping the possibility of an alliance open.
