Chandra Memorial Football League 2026 Opens With Grand Event

The Shyam Sundar Co. Jewellers Chandra Memorial Football League, organised by the Tripura Football Association (TFA), officially began on Saturday at Umakanta Mini Stadium, marking another major domestic football competition in the state.

The inaugural ceremony was attended by MLA Abhishek Debroy, former footballer Rajib Ghosh, Shyam Sundar Co. Jewellers proprietor Rupak Saha, TFA president Pranab Sarkar and secretary Amit Chowdhury.

Former footballer Rajib Ghosh formally inaugurated the competition by kicking the football at the stadium. The opening fixture featured Bloodmouth Club against Town Club, setting the tournament in motion.

League Aims to Strengthen Tripura's Football Ecosystem

The tournament has been organised with the objective of increasing public interest in football while providing local players with a competitive platform to demonstrate their abilities.

Organisers said the competition is intended to encourage footballers and contribute to the overall development of the sport in Tripura. Shyam Sundar Co. Jewellers proprietor Rupak Saha highlighted the importance of creating more opportunities for players to test themselves in competitive matches.

According to the organisers, the league can play an important role in identifying and developing emerging football talent from the state.

Chandra Memorial League Features Top Division Clubs

The Chandra Memorial Football League is an A-Division competition under the Tripura Football Association. A total of nine member clubs will compete in the current edition with the aim of securing the coveted championship trophy.

The tournament is being organised in memory of Gaur Chandra Saha, a former vice-president of the Tripura Football Association who had a longstanding association with football and the TFA.

As the founder of Shyam Sundar Co. Jewellers, his legacy remains closely connected with efforts to support and promote football in Tripura.

TFA Has Been Promoting Football in Tripura Since 1968

Established in 1968, the Tripura Football Association is affiliated with the All India Football Federation (AIFF).

The association operates three men's divisions—A, B and C—along with a women's division. The respective divisions have 10, 10, 18 and 8 member clubs.

Through its domestic competitions, the TFA provides footballers across Tripura with opportunities to compete at different levels and develop their skills.

Individual Awards and Fair Play Trophy

The tournament will also recognise outstanding performances through several individual awards.

Man of the Tournament
Best Emerging Player
Best Referee
Best Coach

Award winners will receive mementos along with cash prizes.

A Fair Play Trophy and prize money will also be presented to the team that demonstrates exemplary sportsmanship and maintains a clean and disciplined approach throughout the competition.
