Defending champions Gujarat Titans registered a dominant 89-run victory over Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Thursday, bringing Chennai’s campaign to an end this season.
The match was played at the Narendra Modi Stadium, where Gujarat delivered a commanding all-round performance.
After losing the toss and being asked to bat first, Gujarat Titans posted a massive 229 for 4 in 20 overs. In reply, Chennai Super Kings were bowled out for 140 in just 13.4 overs.
Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill Lay Strong Foundation
Opening batter Sai Sudharsan played a brilliant knock of 84 runs off 53 balls, smashing 7 boundaries and 4 sixes. Gujarat skipper Shubman Gill also impressed with 64 runs off 37 deliveries.
The duo stitched together a crucial 125-run opening partnership that put Chennai under pressure early in the innings.
Jos Buttler Finishes in Style
England wicketkeeper-batter Jos Buttler provided the late fireworks with an unbeaten 57 off just 27 balls. Washington Sundar contributed a quick 7 runs from 3 balls.
For Chennai, Mukesh Choudhary, Spencer Johnson and Anshul Kamboj picked up one wicket each.
Chennai Super Kings Collapse in Chase
Chennai failed to build momentum during the run chase and kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Gujarat’s bowlers dominated throughout the innings, restricting CSK to 140 all out.
The defeat officially ended Chennai Super Kings’ IPL 2026 campaign.
