CM Dr. Saha reviews urban projects, seeks faster execution

In a major review of urban infrastructure and civic development works, Manik Saha on Friday directed officials to ensure timely completion of all ongoing projects, maintain construction quality and strengthen post-project monitoring for better urban governance across Tripura.
Chairing a high-level meeting at the War Room of TIFT at his official residence in Agartala, the Chief Minister stressed the need to accelerate administrative processes to deliver citizen services more efficiently. He said urban development projects must be completed within stipulated timelines while ensuring long-term maintenance and accountability.
The review meeting was attended by Chief Secretary JK Sinha, Urban Development Department Secretary Mili, Finance Department Secretary Apurba Roy, Agartala Municipal Corporation Commissioner Saju Bahid, department director Megha Jain, and senior officials from various departments.
During the meeting, the Chief Minister instructed officials to expedite projects being implemented by Tripura Urban Planning and Development Authority, including the construction of the Junction Gate in Agartala. He also emphasised the early completion of the under-construction lighthouse project at the Akhaura Border.
Dr. Saha further directed authorities to speed up work on the proposed city hospital to strengthen healthcare services for the public. He also stressed the urgent installation of CCTV cameras in urban areas to improve security and modernise city surveillance systems.
To improve pedestrian safety and reduce accidents, the Chief Minister asked officials to install railings along footpaths in urban centres. He also highlighted the importance of riverfront development along the Gomti River in Udaipur and instructed departments to ensure regular maintenance of existing pump houses while constructing new ones if required.
The Chief Minister also reviewed the progress of the Swachh Bharat Mission and expressed satisfaction over the near completion of pink toilet projects in 20 urban areas of the state.
As part of heritage conservation efforts, he directed the development of the Vivekananda Gymnasium and ordered construction of another paved ghat at Shantipara pond.
The Chief Minister further advised AMC officials to create a proper mechanism for the safe disposal or recycling of idols after festivals to protect the environment. He also stressed regular door-to-door garbage collection and efficient solid waste management across urban areas.
The meeting reviewed the progress of several major initiatives, including the Chief Minister’s Urban Development Project, Satellite Township Project, AMRUT 2.0, Asian Development Bank-assisted projects, Smart Cities Mission, city beautification projects and the SASCI scheme.
Reiterating the government’s commitment to planned urban growth, Dr. Saha said the administration is working to build modern infrastructure and improve civic amenities in Agartala and other towns to create a cleaner, smarter and well-planned Tripura.
