CM Saha Directs Crackdown on Drug Routes via NE States

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha has taken a firm stand to make the state drug-free, directing law enforcement agencies to adopt a zero-tolerance approach against narcotics.

At a review meeting held at the Civil Secretariat on Tuesday under the Task Monitoring System (TMS), the Chief Minister instructed the police administration to remain constantly vigilant to prevent drugs from entering the state through railways or any other routes. He pointed out that various narcotics are smuggled from Myanmar and routed through Mizoram and southern Assam before reaching Tripura, often for illegal transit into neighbouring Bangladesh.

Security forces, including the Assam Rifles and Tripura Police, have frequently seized drugs transported into the state from different parts of the country, including Delhi. “Our government’s priority is zero tolerance towards the drug menace. Law enforcement agencies must take all-out measures to curb drug-related activities,” said Saha, who also holds the Home Department portfolio.

Apart from the anti-drug drive, the Chief Minister directed officials to address traffic congestion and accelerate infrastructure development, stressing that all departments must remain active and responsive. He emphasized strengthening public services and maintaining law and order across the state.

Reiterating the commitment of the Bharatiya Janata Party-led government to serve the people, Saha asked all departments to remain vigilant and proactive in addressing public concerns.

District Magistrates and Superintendents of Police from all eight districts joined the meeting virtually. During the review, the Chief Minister highlighted the urgent need to ease traffic congestion in district headquarters, including Agartala city. He directed authorities to take swift and effective measures, ensure strict monitoring of vehicle load limits, and maintain proper functioning of traffic signal systems. Transport officials were also asked to expedite the construction of new motor stands across the state.

Saha further instructed officials to closely monitor private nursing homes, rehabilitation centres, and sub-registrar offices to ensure transparency, eliminate corruption, and guarantee efficient functioning.

With the monsoon approaching, the Chief Minister directed authorities to take preventive measures against potential outbreaks of diarrhoea and dysentery. He also stressed maintaining discipline in schools and ensuring quality and proper management of mid-day meal schemes.

On infrastructure, Saha ordered the speedy repair and renovation of roads while maintaining strict quality standards. Regarding electricity, officials informed that 99 per cent of infrastructure damaged during the recent seasonal storm has already been restored.

The Chief Minister also directed that there should be no delays in the disbursement of MGNREGA funds and that wages and allowances for daily wage workers are paid on time.

The meeting was attended by Acting Secretary to the Chief Minister Apurba Roy, Health Secretary Kiran Gitte, Urban Development Secretary Milind Ramteke, Information and Cultural Affairs Director Bimbisar Bhattacharya, along with other senior secretaries and departmental directors.
