Commonwealth Games Day 3: Mirabai Chanu Headlines India's Medal Hunt Across Multiple Sports

India will look to strengthen its medal tally on the third day of the Commonwealth Games as competitors take centre stage in weightlifting, artistic gymnastics, swimming, lawn bowls and boxing. The spotlight will firmly remain on Olympic silver medallist Mirabai Chanu, who is set to challenge for the women's 49kg weightlifting gold medal.

With several medal events lined up throughout the day, Indian fans are expected to witness one of the busiest and most exciting Schedule of the Games.


14 Gold Medals Up for Grabs on Day Three

A total of 14 gold medal events are scheduled during the day.

The breakdown includes:

  • 9 Gold Medal Events – Swimming & Para Swimming

  • 3 Gold Medal Events – Weightlifting

  • 2 Gold Medal Events – Artistic Gymnastics

India has realistic medal hopes in weightlifting while several athletes will also aim to secure qualification or podium finishes in other disciplines.


Mirabai Chanu Headlines India's Weightlifting Campaign

India's strongest medal expectation comes from Mirabai Chanu, who will compete in the Women's 49kg Final beginning at 5:30 PM IST.

The weightlifting schedule for India includes:

  • 2:00 PM – Rishikant Singh (Men's 60kg Final)

  • 5:30 PM – Mirabai Chanu (Women's 49kg Final)

  • 11:00 PM – M. Raja (Men's 65kg Final)


Gymnasts Aim for Strong All-Around Performances

Indian gymnasts Yogeshwar Singh and Tapan Mohanty will participate in the Men's All-Around Final at 4:30 PM IST.

The Women's All-Around Final is scheduled for 10:30 PM IST, where India could also feature subject to qualification.


Lawn Bowls Team Continues Campaign

Indian lawn bowls players will continue their sectional matches during the day.

Indian Swimmers Target Relay Final

India's men's 4x200m Freestyle Relay team comprising:

  • Srihari Nataraj

  • Aryan Nehra

  • Anish Gowda

  • Dhakshan Sasikumar

will compete in the heats at 4:39 PM IST.

If they qualify, the quartet will return for the final at 1:56 AM IST on July 27.
