Counting Day Buzz: TMC Quiet, BJP-DMK Cheer

Counting of votes for the Assembly elections in West Bengal, Assam, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Puducherry is currently underway, with strikingly different atmospheres visible at major political party offices across the country.

In Kolkata, the headquarters of the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) presented a subdued picture during the early hours of counting. The office remained largely deserted, with minimal movement or visible activity, reflecting a cautious wait-and-watch approach among party workers and leaders as trends began to emerge.

In sharp contrast, the mood at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) headquarters in New Delhi was upbeat from the outset. As counting commenced, party workers began preparations for celebrations, including making jalebis—often symbolic of anticipated victory. The presence of senior leaders such as Union Minister Bhupender Yadav and party MP Sanjay Jaiswal further underscored the party’s confidence.

Meanwhile, in Chennai, the office of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) turned into a hub of activity and celebration. Large numbers of party supporters gathered outside, raising slogans in support of Chief Minister M. K. Stalin and expressing optimism as counting progressed. The festive environment highlighted the party’s strong morale and expectations.

The counting day scenes follow an intense and high-profile election campaign across all five states. Several moments from the campaign trail had captured public attention and gone viral. Prime Minister Narendra Modi was seen enjoying jhalmuri during his outreach in Bengal, while Congress leader Rahul Gandhi cycled through parts of Kerala to connect with voters. TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee was also seen buying vegetables in local markets, showcasing grassroots engagement. In another widely discussed moment, Modi was seen interacting warmly with a boatman during his campaign.

As vote counting continues, these contrasting visuals—from deserted offices to celebratory gatherings—underscore the varying levels of confidence, anticipation, and political stakes involved. The final results will determine the political direction in these key states, making this one of the most closely watched counting days in recent times.
