Three CRPF Personnel Dead in Major Security Camp Tragedy

A tragic shooting inside a Central Reserve Police Force (crpf) camp in Assam's Nagaon district claimed the lives of three personnel, including the alleged shooter, while another officer was seriously injured on Tuesday morning. The incident has sent shockwaves through the country's security establishment, prompting an immediate high-level investigation.

Firing Took Place Inside 34 Battalion CRPF Camp

The incident occurred at the 34 Battalion CRPF camp at Katimari in Nagaon district. According to preliminary reports, Assistant Sub-Inspector (GD) Ballani Premabaram, a native of Andhra Pradesh, was deployed at the camp's main entrance. During routine duty, officials reportedly noticed that he was not carrying his assigned service firearm.

Investigators believe he later entered the guard room, collected an INSAS rifle, and walked towards the rear section of the Quarter Guard before opening fire on fellow personnel.

Two Colleagues Fatally Shot

Officials said Premabaram allegedly first fired at Head Constable (HV/GD) Vishnu Prasad Baghel, who succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Shortly afterwards, Sub-Inspector (GD) Ramnawal Singh Yadav, who had arrived at the camp for official document verification, was also allegedly shot. Despite immediate response efforts, he too died on the spot.

The back-to-back shootings created panic inside the high-security CRPF campus.

Another Officer Injured During the Attack

The firing did not end there. Authorities said Assistant Sub-Inspector (Mane) Govind Sripul of B/171 Battalion was also struck by gunfire and sustained serious injuries.

He was immediately evacuated to Dew Care Hospital, where doctors are continuing his treatment. His condition is being closely monitored.

Alleged Gunman Dies by Suicide

According to investigators, after the shootings, Ballani Premabaram entered the B/171 Battalion barracks and allegedly turned the rifle on himself.

He died at the scene before fellow personnel could intervene.

Victims Identified by Authorities

Officials have confirmed the identities of the deceased as:

SI/GD Ramnawal Singh Yadav
Head Constable Vishnu Prasad Baghel
ASI/GD Ballani Premabaram (alleged shooter)

The injured officer, ASI Govind Sripul, remains under medical care.

Investigation Underway to Determine Motive

Senior CRPF officers and Assam Police have launched a comprehensive investigation into the incident. Forensic teams are examining the crime scene, while officials are questioning camp personnel to reconstruct the sequence of events.

Authorities have not yet established the motive behind the shooting. Investigators are examining all possible angles, including personal, psychological and service-related factors, before reaching any conclusions.

Security Measures Tightened

Following the incident, security arrangements inside the camp have been strengthened, and access to the affected area has been restricted. CRPF officials are expected to submit a detailed report after the completion of the preliminary inquiry.
