EC Notice to Kharge Over “Modi Terrorist” Remark

The Election Commission of India on Wednesday issued a notice to Mallikarjun Kharge, seeking his response over remarks allegedly made against Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The move follows a complaint filed by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), accusing Kharge of calling the Prime Minister a “terrorist.”

Kharge made the controversial remark during an election rally in Chennai on Tuesday. He later issued a clarification, stating that his comments were misinterpreted. According to him, he did not label Modi a terrorist but meant that the Prime Minister often uses intimidating language toward people and political opponents.

Reacting to the controversy, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, speaking at a rally in Dum Dum North, West Bengal, criticised Kharge’s statement. Shah said it was inappropriate to use such language against Modi, adding that the more the opposition targets him, the stronger public support for the BJP would grow.
