ECI to Begin Special Intensive Revision of Electoral Rolls in Tripura from September

The Election Commission of India has announced the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls for 16 states and three Union Territories under the third phase, with Tripura also included in the exercise.

As per the notification issued on Thursday, the revision process in Tripura will start in September, while January 10, 2026 has been fixed as the qualifying date.

Training programmes, preparatory work and printing activities will be conducted from September 5 to September 14 this year.

Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will carry out door-to-door verification from September 15 to October 14.

The rationalisation of polling stations has been scheduled for October 14, whereas the draft electoral roll will be published on October 21.

The period for submitting claims and objections will begin from October 21.

The notice stage and disposal of claims and objections will continue from October 21 till December 19.

The final electoral rolls in Tripura will be officially published on December 23 after completion of the SIR process.

According to the Election Commission, Tripura currently has 3,356 Booth Level Officers (BLOs), 6,757 Booth Level Agents (BLAs) and 28,97,674 registered electors as of May 12, 2026.

The Commission stated that the schedule for Phase-III was prepared keeping in mind the ongoing Census house-listing work and the availability of the common field machinery.

With the implementation of Phase-III, the Special Intensive Revision process will cover the entire country except Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.

The ECI said the SIR schedule for these three regions will be announced later after taking into account the completion of Census Phase-II and weather conditions in snow-bound and upper-altitude areas.

Under Phase-III, more than 3.94 lakh Booth Level Officers will visit households to verify nearly 36.73 crore electors across the country.

The verification drive will be supported by around 3.42 lakh Booth Level Agents appointed by different political parties during the enumeration process.

The Election Commission described the SIR exercise as a participatory process involving voters, political parties and election officials.

The Commission also appealed to all political parties to appoint Booth Level Agents for every polling station to ensure transparency and active participation in the revision process.

The ECI further stated that the first two phases of the SIR, covering 13 states and Union Territories with nearly 59 crore electors, involved more than 6.3 lakh BLOs and 9.2 lakh BLAs at various stages of the exercise.
