The high-stakes second and final phase of the 2026 Assembly elections in West Bengal will conclude on Wednesday, with exit poll projections set to be released after 6:30 pm on April 29, in accordance with Election Commission of India guidelines.
Phase 2 voting will cover the remaining constituencies of the 294-seat Assembly, marking the final leg of an intense contest between the ruling All India Trinamool Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party, both of which have made last-minute appeals to voters.
As per Election Commission rules, exit polls are strictly prohibited until 30 minutes after polling ends in the final phase, meaning projections for the 2026 elections can only be published after 6:30 pm on April 29.
In the first phase held on April 23, voting took place in 152 constituencies in West Bengal, recording a historic turnout of 93.2%, with several regions witnessing participation close to 93%, heightening anticipation around the final results.
Other poll-bound regions have also reported strong voter turnout. Tamil Nadu recorded a final turnout of 85.1%, while Assam saw 85.5% voting across all 126 seats. In Kerala, turnout ranged between 75% and 78% across 140 constituencies.
Meanwhile, Puducherry registered a record 89.87% voter turnout, the highest ever in the Union Territory since its merger with India and its first Assembly election in 1964.
Counting of votes across all these regions is scheduled for May 4.
The 2026 elections are being seen as a crucial political milestone, with outcomes expected to significantly influence both regional dynamics and the broader national political landscape.
