An FIR has been registered against former West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress (aitc) leader Mamata Banerjee at the Hare Street Police Station in Kolkata. The case pertains to allegations that a speech delivered during her election campaign on March 9 contained provocative remarks capable of disturbing communal harmony and public order.
The complaint was filed by Tushar Kanti Das, who has alleged that the statement made during a public address in Dharmatala could have impacted both social harmony and democratic stability in West Bengal.
CID ACTION AT ABHISHEK BANERJEE’S RESIDENCE
In a parallel development, a team from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) visited the residence of TMC Member of Parliament and party national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee in connection with an alleged forged signature case.
His legal team also reached the location during the visit. However, officials did not initially disclose detailed information regarding the purpose of the inquiry, leading to further speculation around the investigation.
Advocate Debashish Roy, representing Abhishek Banerjee, stated that the CID did not provide any clarification regarding the raid or questioning.
KIREN RIJIJU REACTS TO MAMATA BANERJEE SPEECH CONTROVERSY
Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Kiren Rijiju shared a video clip of Mamata Banerjee’s speech on social media platform X (formerly Twitter). He strongly criticized the remarks, describing them as disturbing and inappropriate, and emphasized that public safety must be ensured through law enforcement institutions rather than individual assurances.

SEPARATE FIR IN SILIGURI OVER RELIGIOUS REMARKS
A separate FIR was registered at the Siliguri Cyber Police Station on May 26 against Mamata Banerjee over alleged controversial remarks related to Sanatan Dharma and Hinduism during an Eid-related programme held in Kolkata in 2025.
The complaint was filed by advocate Rinki Chatterjee Singh, who alleged that the remarks included objectionable expressions that triggered controversy.
CID SUMMONS ABHISHEK BANERJEE AGAIN
The West Bengal CID has issued fresh summons to Abhishek Banerjee, directing him to appear again on June 14 for further questioning in the ongoing forged signature case.
Earlier, he appeared before investigators following directions from the Calcutta High Court. However, officials stated that several answers during interrogation were unsatisfactory and key documents remain pending.
The Calcutta High Court has granted interim protection from coercive action for three weeks, while directing full cooperation with the investigation. Officials also noted that multiple earlier summons were not complied with.
