From Sacrifice to Stardom: Mukul’s LSG Heroics

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) batsman Mukul Chaudhary has expressed his desire to become a finisher like his idol, MS Dhoni. Speaking to JioHotstar, Mukul revealed that Dhoni’s iconic helicopter shot is his favorite and that the legendary captain’s match-winning knock in the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup continues to inspire him.

A Father’s Sacrifice

Mukul’s journey to professional cricket is deeply rooted in his father’s sacrifices. Although his father once aspired to play cricket himself, circumstances prevented him from pursuing the sport. Determined to fulfill that dream through his son, he decided even before marriage that his child would become a cricketer.

During Mukul’s childhood, the family faced significant financial hardships. His father worked as a college teacher while simultaneously preparing for the Rajasthan Administrative Service (RAS). Eventually, he faced a life-changing decision—whether to continue his RAS preparation or support Mukul’s cricketing ambitions. Choosing his son’s dream, he abandoned his civil service aspirations and started a property business to fund Mukul’s training.

To finance Mukul’s cricket education, his father reportedly sold their house and took out loans, enabling Mukul to enroll at the SBS Cricket Academy in Sikar at the age of 12. The search for a suitable academy began on Mukul’s birthday in 2015, when he and his father travelled across Churu, Jhunjhunu, and Sikar before discovering the academy that would shape his future.

Rise Through the Ranks

Coming from a non-cricketing background, Mukul initially had limited exposure to the sport. However, relentless hard work and unwavering family support propelled him forward. His breakthrough came in the 2025–26 Under-23 List A Trophy, where he emerged as the leading run-scorer with 617 runs, including two centuries and four half-centuries.

IPL Breakthrough with LSG

Impressed by his stellar domestic performances, the Lucknow Super Giants secured Mukul’s services in the IPL 2026 auction for ₹2.60 crore, a remarkable 13 times his base price.

Mukul soon justified the franchise’s faith with a sensational match-winning performance against the Kolkata Knight Riders. Chasing a challenging target, LSG required 43 runs from the final 18 balls with seven wickets down. Rising to the occasion, Mukul played a composed and explosive innings, scoring an unbeaten 54 off 27 balls to guide his team to a thrilling three-wicket victory and secure their second consecutive win in the tournament.

Tribute to His Inspirations

Following the match, Mukul dedicated his performance to his father and his idol, MS Dhoni, crediting them as the driving forces behind his success. His story stands as a testament to perseverance, sacrifice, and the power of dreams, marking him as one of the most promising finishers in Indian cricket.
