Historic NCAA triumph for India’s Lokesh

Indian long jumper Lokesh Sathyanathan delivered a standout performance by clinching gold at the NCAA Division I Championships held in Arkansas, USA.
Lokesh not only secured the top podium finish but also shattered his own indoor national record, leaping an impressive 8.21 meters—surpassing his previous best of 8.01 meters. With this achievement, he becomes only the fourth Indian to win this prestigious NCAA title.
Currently pursuing health science at Tarleton State University in Texas, Lokesh credited his success to the unwavering support and blessings of his parents. Drawing inspiration from the film KGF: Chapter 2, he recalled a powerful dialogue about fulfilling a mother’s dream—something he deeply resonates with. According to him, memories of his mother’s sacrifices continue to motivate him during crucial moments.
His journey, however, has been anything but smooth. In 2022, before moving to the United States, Lokesh suffered a severe accident in Bengaluru that left him with serious facial injuries. Overcoming physical pain and setbacks, he made a determined comeback, fueled by his father’s strength and his mother’s faith.
With this remarkable victory, Lokesh now ranks third on India’s all-time long jump list, behind elite jumpers like Jaswin Aldrin and Murali Sreeshankar—cementing his status as one of India’s rising stars in athletics.
