India Crush Afghanistan by 7 Wickets in Rain-Hit Dharamsala ODI, Take 1–0 Series Lead

In a rain-interrupted opening ODI at Dharamsala, India (bcci) produced a dominant all-round performance to defeat Afghanistan (icc-cricket) by 7 wickets and take a 1–0 lead in the three-match series. The encounter was reduced to 25 overs per side due to persistent weather interruptions.

Afghanistan Innings: Gurbaz’s Explosive Century in Vain

After losing the toss and being asked to bat first, Afghanistan posted 194 all out in 24.5 overs.

The highlight of the innings was a blazing knock from Rahmanullah Gurbaz, who smashed 102 runs off just 48 balls. His innings included 8 fours and 8 sixes, marking one of the fastest centuries in recent ODI history. However, lack of support from the other end restricted Afghanistan from capitalizing on the momentum.

India Chase: Controlled and Clinical Finish

Chasing 195, India comfortably reached the target in 22.5 overs, losing just 3 wickets.

  • Shubman Gill led from the front with an unbeaten 84 off 66 balls
  • KL Rahul anchored the middle order with 39 not out
  • Ishan Kishan added a quick 34-run contribution

India maintained a steady scoring rate throughout the chase, ensuring a smooth finish without pressure.

India’s bowling attack played a crucial role in restricting Afghanistan despite Gurbaz’s heroics.

The debutants particularly impressed with disciplined spells that triggered Afghanistan’s collapse after a strong start.

With this win, India leads the three-match ODI series 1–0. The second ODI will be played in Lucknow on June 17, where Afghanistan will aim to bounce back and level the series.
