India Protests US Over Death of 3 Indian Sailors in Gulf Attack

Diplomatic tensions between India and the United States have intensified after three Indian sailors lost their lives in attacks on commercial vessels operating in the Gulf (gcc-sg) region.
The incident has triggered a strong response from the Indian government, which has formally protested the actions that led to the deaths of Indian crew members.
External Affairs (mea) Minister S. Jaishankar held a telephonic conversation with US Secretary of State(state.gov) Marco Rubio and conveyed India's serious concerns regarding the incident. According to Jaishankar, any military action resulting in casualties aboard commercial ships cannot be justified and raises significant concerns about maritime security in the Gulf region.
The controversy follows a series of attacks on vessels carrying Indian crew members near the coast of Oman. One of the attacks, reported on June 10, resulted in the deaths of three Indian sailors, prompting New Delhi to summon the US Embassy's Charge d'Affaires and lodge an official diplomatic protest.
Meanwhile, Iran has urged caution over reports surrounding ongoing negotiations with Washington. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that progress had been made in discussions between the two countries but warned against speculation regarding the contents of any potential agreement.
Tehran also rejected media reports claiming that a formal Iran-US agreement would be signed in Geneva on June 14. Iranian officials clarified that negotiations remain incomplete and no final deal has yet been approved.
As concerns over the safety of Indian seafarers continue to grow, India has summoned a senior US diplomat for the second time in recent days. The government reiterated its expectation that the security of Indian nationals working aboard international commercial vessels must be protected.
Adding to regional tensions, US President Donald Trump alleged that Iran attempted to target ships carrying Indian crew members through a drone operation near the Strait of Hormuz. According to Trump, the attempted attack was successfully intercepted before causing damage.
Iran, however, maintained a firm stance on its strategic influence in the region. A senior Iranian military official claimed that Tehran exercises extensive control over activities in the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world's most important maritime trade routes.
The developments have drawn global attention as concerns grow over maritime security, international shipping routes, India-US relations, and the broader geopolitical situation in the Middle East. The Strait of Hormuz remains a critical gateway for global energy supplies and commercial shipping, making any escalation in the region a matter of international significance.
