India Wins Two More Commonwealth Games Medals: Lovepreet Claims Silver, Seema Bags Bronze as Neeraj in Javelin Final

India enjoyed another memorable day at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, with Lovepreet Singh winning a silver medal in weightlifting and Seema Kaliramna capturing bronze in the women's discus throw. The double success lifted India's overall medal tally to 17 medals, strengthening the country's campaign in the Games. 

Lovepreet Singh Wins Silver After Record-Breaking Performance


Indian weightlifter Lovepreet Singh produced a sensational display in the men's 110kg category, lifting a combined 388kg to finish second.

He successfully lifted:

  • 176kg in Snatch

  • 212kg in Clean & Jerk

  • Total: 388kg

Lovepreet also established a new Commonwealth Games record in the snatch, underlining his dominance during the opening phase of the competition. 

Gold Slips Away by Just One Kilogram

The contest remained undecided until the final lifts.

New Zealand's David Liti completed a stunning 223kg Clean & Jerk, taking his total to 389kg, just one kilogram ahead of Lovepreet to secure the gold medal.

England's Andrew Griffith finished third with a combined 356kg.

Lovepreet attempted 217kg in his final lift but could not complete it, narrowly missing India's fourth gold medal. 

Seema Kaliramna Delivers Inspirational Bronze

India celebrated another podium finish after Seema Kaliramna claimed bronze in the women's discus throw.

Her best effort of 58.65 metres, achieved on her third attempt, proved enough for a medal despite fouling in each of her final three throws.

The achievement is particularly remarkable because the 27-year-old athlete returned to elite competition after becoming a mother while continuing her PhD studies.

Women's Discus Throw Results

  • 🥇 Samantha Hall (Jamaica) – 61.66m

  • 🥈 Julia Tunks (Canada) – 60.67m

  • 🥉 Seema Kaliramna (India) – 58.65m

India's Nidhi Rani narrowly missed the podium after finishing fourth with 53.19 metres. 

India's Medal Count Reaches 17

Following Thursday's performances, India now has:

  • Gold: 3

  • Silver: 10

  • Bronze: 4

Total Medals: 17

India currently occupies 10th place in the Commonwealth Games medal standings. 

Neeraj Chopra, Rohit Yadav and Yashvir Singh Qualify for Final

India's hopes of adding another athletics medal remain alive after Neeraj Chopra, Rohit Yadav, and Yashvir Singh all booked places in the men's javelin throw final.

Qualification performances:

  • Neeraj Chopra: 79.61m (5th)

  • Rohit Yadav: 78.37m (9th)

  • Yashvir Singh: 78.36m (10th)

Pakistan's Olympic champion Arshad Nadeem also progressed after throwing 78.63 metres.

The men's javelin final is scheduled for Friday at 12:45 a.m.

Neeraj enters the final as one of the favourites.

His career achievements include:

  • Tokyo Olympics 2020 Gold Medal

  • World Athletics Championships 2023 Gold

  • Asian Games 2023 Gold

  • Paris Olympics 2024 Silver

  • National Record of 90.23m at the 2025 Doha Diamond League, becoming the first Indian to breach the 90-metre mark.
