Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday led the 12th International Day of Yoga celebrations at Kolkata's historic Red Road, stressing the importance of maintaining health, flexibility and energy throughout life through the practice of yoga.
Addressing thousands of participants, PM Modi said people should aspire to remain more flexible at the age of 40 than they were at 20, more energetic at 50 than at 30, and healthier at 70 than they were at 50. He emphasized that Yoga can help individuals achieve healthy ageing and improve overall quality of life.
The Prime Minister (PM) stated that yoga has transformed into the world's largest collective wellness movement, connecting people across nations, cultures and communities. He noted that June 21, known as the longest day of the year in many parts of the world, is now globally observed as International Yoga Day.
Thousands joined PM Modi in performing yoga at Kolkata's iconic Red Road. During the session, the Prime Minister performed several yoga postures, including Tadasana, Ardhachakrasana, Bhadrasana and Trikonasana. He also interacted with participants and guided them in improving their yoga techniques during the Common Yoga Protocol session.

The theme for the 12th International Day of Yoga, "Yoga for Healthy Aging", highlights yoga's role in promoting physical fitness, mental wellness and emotional stability throughout the ageing process.
