The military confrontation between Iran and the United States (USA) has entered a dangerous new phase, with Tehran launching coordinated missile and drone strikes against multiple American military installations across the Middle East following fresh US airstrikes on Iranian targets. The latest escalation has also seen Iran announce the closure of the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz, raising fears of a wider regional conflict and disruption to global energy supplies.
Iran Fires Missiles at US Military Bases in Five Countries
According to regional reports, Iranian forces targeted American military facilities located in Jordan, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The attacks reportedly involved a combination of ballistic missiles and armed drones aimed at key defence and communication infrastructure used by US forces.
Among the reported targets were Prince Hassan Air Base in Jordan, a Patriot missile defence and radar installation in Kuwait, and a US military communications centre in Bahrain. Military sites in Qatar and the UAE were also reportedly struck during the coordinated operation.
Why Did the US Launch Airstrikes?
The American offensive came after Washington accused Iran of attacking a Cyprus-flagged container ship transiting the Strait of Hormuz. The vessel reportedly caught fire, suffered significant engine damage, and one crew member remains missing.
