Jannik Sinner Defends Wimbledon Title 2026, Creates Open Era History with Fifth Grand Slam Crown

World No. 1 Jannik Sinner Jannik Sinner cemented his place among tennis greats after successfully defending the Wimbledon 2026 men's singles title, defeating Germany's Alexander Zverev in an entertaining four-set final at the All England Club. The Italian star prevailed 6-7(7), 7-6(2), 6-3, 6-4, becoming only the 10th player in the Open Era to retain the Wimbledon men's singles championship. 

The championship encounter lasted 3 hours and 46 minutes, with Sinner recovering brilliantly after losing the opening-set tie-break. The victory also marked the Italian's 100th career Grand Slam match win, highlighting another milestone in his remarkable career.

Fifth Grand Slam Title and First Major of 2026

The Wimbledon triumph handed Sinner his fifth Grand Slam singles title and his first major championship of the 2026 season. Earlier this year, he suffered a shock second-round exit at the French Open but responded in spectacular fashion on grass.

In the semifinals, Sinner defeated Novak Djokovic in straight sets before producing another composed performance against Zverev in the final. 

Sinner Extends Dominance Over Alexander Zverev

After dropping the first set in a tense tie-break, Sinner seized control by winning the second-set tie-break before breaking Zverev's serve once in both the third and fourth sets.

The Italian faced only one break point throughout the match and successfully saved it. He finished with 58 winners before celebrating by collapsing onto the Centre Court grass after converting his first championship point.

Massive Prize Money and ATP Rankings Boost

With the Wimbledon victory, Sinner collected £3.6 million (around ₹42 crore) in prize money while strengthening his grip on the ATP World No. 1 ranking.

Although Zverev moved up to World No. 2, Sinner continues to enjoy a commanding lead of 4,970 ranking points, underlining his dominance on the ATP Tour. 

Sixth ATP Title of the Season

The Wimbledon crown also became Sinner's sixth ATP title of 2026. Earlier this season, he captured the Rome Masters, completing his coveted Career Golden Masters achievement and reinforcing his status as the world's best men's singles player.
