British Prime Minister Keir Starmer is reportedly (Reutes) preparing to announce his resignation on Monday, with speculation suggesting that he could also unveil a roadmap for stepping down from office, according to a report published by The Observer.
The report claimed that Starmer reached the decision after extensive consultations with cabinet colleagues, senior advisers, and trade union leaders. However, government insiders dismissed the reports while speaking to Reuters, insisting that Starmer remains fully focused on his duties as Prime Minister.
Over 100 Labour MPs Reportedly Demand Starmer's Resignation
According to Reuters, more than 100 MPs from the ruling Labour Party have publicly urged Starmer either to resign immediately or announce a clear timeline for his departure. The lawmakers reportedly represent nearly one-quarter of Labour's parliamentary strength in the House of Commons.
If Starmer steps down, he would become the sixth British Prime Minister in the last decade to leave office before completing a full term. Former UK leaders David Cameron, Theresa May, Boris Johnson, Liz Truss, and Rishi Sunak all exited office before the end of their mandates.
