LPG Cylinder Price Hike: Domestic Cooking Gas Becomes Costlier Again, ₹29 Increase Takes Effect Across India

Household budgets are set to come under additional pressure as the price of domestic LPG cylinders has been increased by ₹29 with effect from midnight. Following the latest revision, a standard 14.2-kg domestic cooking gas cylinder in Delhi now costs ₹942, compared to the previous rate of ₹913.
The latest LPG cylinder price hike is the second increase within the last three months, adding to the financial burden on millions of households across India.
LPG Prices Rise by ₹89 in Three Months
This is not the first revision in recent months. On March 7, oil marketing companies
(Petroleum Planning and Analysis Cell (PPAC) had raised domestic LPG prices by ₹60 per cylinder. With the new ₹29 increase, the cumulative rise in domestic cooking gas prices has reached ₹89 within a three-month period.
The repeated increase in LPG cylinder rates has sparked concerns among consumers already dealing with higher fuel and living costs.
Why Have LPG Cylinder Prices Increased?
According to sources quoted by Press Trust of India (PTI) state-owned oil marketing companies have cited rising global energy prices and increasing operational losses as the primary reasons behind the latest LPG price hike.
Officials indicated that public sector fuel retailers are currently losing around ₹703 on every domestic LPG cylinder sold. The latest increase is expected to recover only a portion of those losses.
Previous LPG Price Revisions
The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG) had earlier approved a ₹50 increase in domestic LPG cylinder prices on April 8, 2025. In addition, commercial LPG cylinder prices were raised by ₹31 on March 1, 2026.
The latest revision continues the trend of rising cooking gas prices witnessed over the past year.
5-Kg LPG Cylinder Also Becomes Costlier
Alongside the increase in standard domestic cylinders, the price of a 5-kg LPG cylinder has also been revised upward by ₹11. Consumers purchasing the smaller cylinder will now have to pay ₹821.50.
Petrol, Diesel and CNG Prices Also Witness Hike
The LPG price increase comes amid a broader rise in fuel prices across the country. In recent weeks, petrol, diesel and compressed natural gas (CNG) have all become more expensive.
During May, petrol and diesel prices recorded a combined increase of around ₹7.50 per litre, while CNG prices rose by nearly ₹6 per kilogram.
Industry sources claim oil companies continue to incur losses of approximately ₹11 per litre on petrol and ₹33.6 per litre on diesel despite recent price revisions.
Government Says Full Global Price Impact Not Passed to Consumers
Oil companies maintain that fuel products are still being sold below actual cost levels. Government sources have stated that the complete impact of rising international crude oil prices has not yet been transferred to consumers, with state-run companies absorbing part of the financial burden.
