Starting May 1, several major financial and policy changes have come into effect across the country, including a steep hike in commercial LPG cylinder prices, an increase in Free Trade LPG cylinder rates, and the implementation of the new Online Gaming Rules 2026.
Commercial LPG cylinders become costlier by ₹994
Oil marketing companies have increased the price of commercial LPG cylinders by ₹994. In Delhi, a commercial cylinder will now cost ₹3,071.50, compared to the earlier price of ₹2,078.50.
The sharp rise is expected to increase operational costs for restaurants, roadside eateries, tea stalls, and catering businesses. As a result, consumers may soon see higher prices for tea, snacks, meals, and wedding catering services.
5-kg Free Trade LPG cylinder price increased by ₹261
The price of the 5-kg Free Trade LPG (FTL) cylinder, popularly known as the “Chhotu” cylinder, has also been increased by ₹261. The refill price now stands at ₹813.50, up from ₹552.50 earlier.
However, there has been no change in the price of the 5-kg domestic LPG cylinder, which continues to cost ₹339.
FTL cylinders are widely used by migrant workers, students, and small shopkeepers because they can be purchased without address proof, making them more accessible for temporary users.
No change in domestic LPG prices
The government has not revised the prices of regular domestic LPG cylinders. Household consumers will continue to pay the existing rates for domestic cooking gas.
Diesel and aviation fuel exports become cheaper
The Centre has reduced the special additional excise duty on diesel exports to ₹23 per litre for the next 15 days beginning May 1. Earlier in April, the duty stood at ₹55.5 per litre.
Similarly, the special additional excise duty on aviation turbine fuel (ATF) exports has been reduced to ₹33 per litre from ₹42 per litre.
The Petroleum Ministry has also revised fuel definitions to permit blending of synthetic fuel with ATF, a move aimed at encouraging environmentally friendly and alternative fuels in the aviation sector.
The reduction in export duties is expected to benefit Indian refining companies by making fuel exports more competitive in international markets, potentially boosting profits for major refiners.
Meanwhile, the Finance Ministry clarified that there has been no change in excise duty on petrol and diesel meant for domestic consumption, ensuring fuel prices remain unchanged for the general public.
Online Gaming Rules 2026 come into effect
The new Online Gaming Rules 2026 have officially come into force from May 1. The rules are aimed at regulating the rapidly growing online gaming sector and introducing stricter compliance measures for gaming platforms operating in India.
