CLP Leader Meghachandra Alleges Lack of Trust in BJP Leadership, Demands Clarification

A fresh political controversy has erupted in Manipur after the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) questioned the exclusion of Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh from a recent meeting between a delegation of Manipur's Naga legislators and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

Addressing a press conference in Imphal on Saturday, CLP leader Keisham Meghachandra Singh described the development as unprecedented and raised serious concerns over the functioning of the BJP-led government in the state.

According to Meghachandra, the delegation of Naga MLAs from Manipur met Union Home Minister Amit Shah under the leadership of Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio. The Congress leader questioned why the Chief Minister of Manipur was not included in discussions involving matters directly related to the state.

"The exclusion of the Chief Minister from such a crucial meeting undermines the constitutional authority and institutional dignity of the office," Meghachandra alleged while interacting with media persons.

The Congress leader further raised questions over the participation of Deputy Chief Minister Losii Dikho in the delegation. He claimed that the meeting reflected an apparent lack of confidence among Naga legislators in the leadership of Chief Minister Khemchand Singh.

Meghachandra asserted that all issues concerning Manipur should be discussed with the active participation of the state's elected leadership. He demanded an explanation from the BJP government on why the state was not represented collectively during the interaction with the Union Home Minister.

Criticising the overall functioning of the government, the CLP leader also alleged a lack of transparency and collective responsibility within the BJP administration.

Targeting Deputy Chief Minister Nemcha Kipgen, Meghachandra questioned her continued functioning from New Delhi despite the prevailing security situation in Manipur.

He argued that senior members of the government should remain in the state to effectively oversee governance and address public concerns.

Escalating his criticism, Meghachandra described Chief Minister Khemchand Singh as a "paper tiger", alleging that the Chief Minister lacks the authority required to effectively lead the state's administration.

The BJP-led government had not issued any immediate response to the allegations till the filing of this report.
