Manipur: Hand Grenade Found Near Shija Hospital in Imphal

Security alert was triggered at Shija Hospitals & Research Institute (SHRI) in Imphal West, Manipur, on Monday morning after a hand grenade was discovered near a public toilet inside the hospital premises.
The suspicious object was reportedly noticed by commuters at around 7:30 am on August 31, 2026. The discovery prompted an immediate security response, with authorities securing the area as a precautionary measure.
A Manipur Police bomb disposal team subsequently reached the hospital and safely removed the hand grenade from the location. No casualties or damage were reported in connection with the discovery.
Police Launch Probe
Police have initiated an investigation to determine who left the explosive near the hospital and establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.

As of the latest available information, no individual or organisation has claimed responsibility for placing the grenade at the hospital premises. Further details are awaited as the investigation progresses.
The incident comes amid continuing security concerns in Manipur, where police and security forces have recently reported several operations involving the recovery of weapons and explosives. Manipur Police reported the recovery of hand grenades and other arms in Imphal West during a search operation on August 26.
